I love to see the temple

Since February 2009 Liz and I have made it our goal to attend the temple once a month. I am proud to say we have held true to that promise and have been going strong since February. We will do a session one month or initories the next, we even took Stu and did sealings. There are some months we are scrapping by to get it done before the end of the month and others we get done early. I wish I was as good with my visiting teaching as I am attending the temple.

Tradition

Stu married a lady that loves traditions. One of our traditions is to visit the place that Stu proposed to me on the day Stu proposed-August 4th 2006. This year, the days flew by and August 4th flew by along with it. So yesterday we decided to keep the tradition alive (even if it was a few weeks later). In keeping with tradition we went to Cutlers Sandwiches for some dinner and headed up the canyon. The sun was setting and the road was really rocky this year and Blue was very antsy about something because he was very whiny. The one thing we were worried about was rattlesnakes. The hills are full of them and most of them come out to sun bath in the afternoon summer sun. But..we were lucky-we didn't see any snakes. We did see some HUGE spider webs on the ground that Stu told me where probably Hobo Spiders. YIKES, I stepped really carefully around those. Since the last time we went up to our rock there was a fire. It is kinda hard to see in this picture but the far part was black.
A small glimpse of the rock I was sitting on when Stu got down on his knee to propose. Every year we take a picture of this bush to see how big it gets. I was glad it was not burned up in the fire.

Getting a family picture on a very steep hill with the sun blinding you is hard. This was the best we could get.
As we were eating our sandwiches Blue got a wild hair to walk away from us and stepped right into a cactus. After Stu said a few choice words before we worked on getting the cactus out of his paws. It was a mess to get them out of his paws, but I think we got them all. That cactus by our rock was not there last year.

Stu tried to take a picture of the setting sun, but it set so fast that he only got this picture. It is still pretty with all the red hues.

And I shall call her Angel

Saturday bright and early (3:30AM to be exact)-Liz and I traveled from Salt Lake to Provo to race in the Provo River half marathon. This was the first year we ran this course and we were excited because it is mostly downhill. This race would give us a base on how our marathon training has been going.
So Saturday traveling to Provo we are in a hurry. We need to be there by 4:45AM to pick up our numbers and running race chips and get on the last bus by 5:30AM. As we start to approach our exit I realized now might be a good time to put on my shoes (I was wearing slippers since I hate wearing my shoes and would prefer to have them on as little as possible). As I grabbed my first shoe a light bulb goes off on my head... and then explodes. "*$)#*@#*" I say to Liz "I forgot my socks!!!" Never mind it is almost 5AM and nothing is open, we are in Provo where neither of us know the area and we are running late. It is then I realize- I am going to have to run 13 miles with no socks.
We arrive at the parking lot to get our numbers and I asked one of the volunteer if there are any open stores around here since I forgot my socks. She thinks for a minute and tells me "no". My only hope was that I could take Liz's car, RUN to the store and get some socks. Alas, my dreams where shattered until the volunteer said "I would give my socks if that wasn't weird". I thanked her, gave her a weak smile before I moved away to put on my number and attach my running chip on my shoe. Liz looks at me and says "take her up on the offer". I think about it for a minute and then return to the volunteer and say "Can I pay you for your socks? I really don't want to run 13 miles with no socks" She laughs and says "Don't worry about it, they were bargain socks, take them". I thanked her and with almost tears in my eyes and run back to Liz and we head to the bus.
I don't even know this lady's name, but I shall call her Angel.
Me after the race with my 'magic socks'. Yes that is my chap stick in my shirt.
The race itself was nice. It was nice to run on a trail with the whole race in the shade. My earphones crapped out at the beginning of the race (I could only hear my music in one ear) and then with 2 miles left the other side crapped out so I ran the last 2 miles with no music. The potty situation sucks. I had to wait 8 min for a bathroom (this 8 min delay caused me to never recover my time and I came in later than I wanted to at the end). But I did finish in 2 hour and 5 min. My goal was to be between 2 hours and 2 hours and 7 min. If I didn't have to stop to use the potty I could have come in earlier. When nature calls, I wish you could tell her to go away. Oh well.
Liz and Sarah after the race.
Overall we did good. The day was so nice (about 70) and we got a good indicator on how the marathon training is coming along. If a few things can be changed for next year, I think I will run this race again.

Family Hike

Today we decided to go on a family hike. I am running a 1/2 marathon on Saturday and I have not worked out all week, so I thought, lets get the whole family (The dog and Stu) and lets take a hike. We headed up City Creek Canyon to picnic #16 (anything above that hits the water shed and we can't take Blue). The hike was fun, hot and really windy but super fun. We ended up hiking for about an hour 1/2, just a paved road (is that still considered hiking?) There was not many things to take pictures of except the sunflowers...they were EVERYWHERE. Below are some of the cool pictures Stu took.

The wind was blowing so hard and Stu caught this sunflower while in a breeze.
Stu really wanted to get a picture of a bee on the sunflower. Can you see Mr. Bzz Bzz on the flower?

A little angel is born!

Lochlan Edward Wehner was born August 3rd around 3:50PM. He weighed in at 6 LBS 12 OZ and 19 1/2 inch long. And look at all that dark hair.
Our dear friends Josh and Kyrie Wehner had their 2nd child-Lochlan by c-section on Monday the 3rd. We were so excited to go up and see the baby, so 6 hours after he was born we got to welcome him into the world. He is a doll, although he never opened his eyes, he did make the cutest baby sounds..little cooing. Soooo cute!

Uncle Stu taking his turn holding Lochlan

Us girls... Sarah, Kyrie and Tiffany. Doesn't Kyrie look great for just giving birth! She was a happy camper thanks to all those drugs!

And the boys..all the boys. Stu, Josh (holding Lochlan) and Doug.

Isn't it Grand?

Stu joined his dad and brother in law for a weekend trip to the Grand Teton's in Wyoming. They didn't just go to look, they went to conquer. They climbed this massive mountain and lived to tell the tail. The elevation of the Grand Teton's is 13,770. I don't know about you, but I think I would need oxygen to make it a quarter of the way up. Here are some pictures Stu took with his iPhone. Not too bad of a camera. In case anyone was wondering how long it takes to climb...2 days and about 20 hours of hiking.
