The Ultimate Race

Stu and I decided to sign up for a race that was too good to pass up. The name of the race was "Challenge Nation". They had their first race in Salt Lake City on Sunday April 15th. Although it was Sunday, Stu and I decided to do a 'date' and run a race. The idea behind this was to meet at a central location and each team assigns a team captain to get your clue. The team captains stand in a big circle with their right arm out while the race organizers hand out an envelope that contains your clues. You all count down from 10 and the race begins. You have 12 clues but only need to complete 11 as fast as you can and then come back to the start point. You have to take pictures of the clue with all members of your team to have it count. Each clue has to be read carefully cuz there are certain things you have to do in each clue. The winner get $ and the team with the best costume also get $. Stu and I didn't dress up, I wanted to be comfortable in my racing attire.
Since it was just Stu and I, Stu was our captain. He got the clue and we were off. The clues were not too hard, but they made you think. And if you can put them in the right order you should finish pretty soon. Some of the clues we figured out later and had to back track, BUT we still came in 6th out of 52 teams with a time of 1 hour 20 min, only 10 min behind the winning team!

Let's start with an easy one: from your burg's perspective, this is the exact center of the universe. It's near a statue of a famous Mr. Young-when you find it, have everyone on the team touch it and point to your home's direction in the photo.

This is located on the corner right by Temple Square where the tall statue of Brigham Young is, right by the JSMB.

Find this arrowhead that used to count down but has only marked time for a decade. When it ends in a odd number, you'll spell out U-T (two person team) or S-L-C (three or more) in the photo!

Of course this is the 2002 Winter Olympics clock by the Delta Center.

Capping at 256 feet by a statue of Columbia, this building has served its original civic purpose for around 118 years-quite a feat in the day and age. Once you arrive on the west grounds, complete the signature Challenge Nation pose-the human pyramid. Be sure to capture the pretty blooming tree's and clock facing pointing at the interval of 5 (:05, :10, etc) in the shot.

The City and County Building on 4th South

Directly across from the street from this landmark theater that is currently in between engagements of The Little Mermaid, you'll find a sculpture in two parts that has sat somewhat unnoticed in a barren lot since the late '70's. Pick your favorite half and do your best to mimic it in the photo.

Across from the Capital Theater. I of course thought this was it, but the "Little Mermaid" threw me off and I talked myself out of it. We headed that way anyways on the off chance it was right...and it was! The technical name for these statues is the "Counterpart"

And the team that won the costume party was Snow What and the Hi Ho Hotties. Voted by the racers in attendance. They won $100 bucks!!
